Classic chapter title - The Wrath of Aggedor
This story is a sequel to Doctor Who and the Curse of Peladon and was finally succeeded itself by the 1994 New Adventure spin-off novel Legacy by Gary Russell.
First edition cover price - 85p
Classic chapter title: well of the 12, nothing really fancy, but perhaps something with an Aggedor in it... Aggedor Strikes Again, The Wrath of Aggedor, The Return of Aggedor, or Aggedor's Sacrifice
Originally published by W. H. Allen, ISBN 0 426 20132 9. An undated reissue was printed a couple of years later with a cover price of £1.25. Reprinted again in 1984 and the pages from this reissue were re-covered (same artwork, different target logo) in the late 1980's. The title was abbreviated to Doctor Who - The Monster of Peladon in June 1992 when the novel was reprinted by Virgin with a brand new cover. The ISBN was retained but the cover price had gone up to £2.99.
A hardback edition was also released in December 1980.
From 1983 the book was numbered 43 in the Doctor Who library.
A chunk of the beginning of the book appeared in a 1983 science fiction anthology, Beyond the Stars, published by Marks and Spencer (ISBN 0 86273 094 5). The story runs up to where Gebek first pleas with Queen Thalira to send home the alien delegates. The story is accompanied by four original illustrations by Peter Dennis, depicting the Doctor, Sarah and Alpha Centauri like you've never seen them before! Also in the book is a sequence from Star Wars with some unique pictures. The hardback was reprinted in 1984, however it was withdrawn due to copyright problems. Cover Data
Alister Pearson's cover artwork for the 1992 reprint was released as a postcard, free with 'Doctor Who Magazine', in the mid-1990's. Donald Gee as the treacherous Eckersley features, alongside Lis Sladen and Jon Pertwee, with Alpha Centauri, Azaxyr and The Statue of Aggedor.
Peter Dennis used the movie poster for Battlestar Galactica (which isn't featured within) as inspiration for his cover for Beyond the Stars. Reviews
"On the whole, a good book. For those tired of the endless and mostly boring books about Baker (and who isn't?) it is really a godsend.
And it would currently seem that there will only be three books by Terrance Dicks in 1981 - and with books by Ian Marter and David Fisher confirmed - 1981 should be a good year. Surely with fewer books, five in all, they can get better..."
